Heart Works

Heart Works is a project I co-created with my collaborator, writer and author Hattie Edmonds . Hattie spent four years carrying out in-depth research into the heart for her book and personal memoir. Through this work, we came to understand just how closely the heart is connected to our mental health and overall wellbeing. As our awareness of this remarkable organ grows, so too does our capacity to be kinder, more empathic, more effective, and more generous human beings.

Drawing on cutting-edge research, including insights from cardiologists, neuroscientists, the HeartMath Institute, mindfulness and focusing, we have developed a simple, engaging programme to help children and teenagers (ages 11-18) to connect with the intelligence of their heart.

Together, Hattie and I bring our complementary skills into each session, combining creative writing, storytelling, movement, and heart-focused mindfulness. Our approach is designed to be playful, interactive, and deeply embodied. I also share a practical, easy-to-use toolkit that supports self-care and self-compassion, especially during times of stress.

Since 2018, we have been running creative workshops in schools and colleges. Heart Works aims to help students both understand and experience concepts such as heart coherence and self-compassion, equipping them with tools to navigate challenges with greater resilience—leading to reduced anxiety and increased confidence.
